Psychotherapists: what they do and how to find one

Psychotherapists provide talking therapies for anxiety, depression, stress, trauma and relationship difficulties, using recognised methods such as cognitive behavioural therapy.

Always confirm that a provider is currently licensed and registered with the official national register — the Health Board (Terviseamet) in Estonia, or Valvira and the Kanta service in Finland — before you book. The guidance here is general information, not a referral, endorsement or medical advice.

When to see one

Reach out when low mood, worry or stress is affecting daily life, sleep or relationships. In a crisis, contact your family doctor or the emergency services rather than waiting for an appointment.

How to find and register

Look for a licensed, registered therapist and check their method and training. A family doctor can advise on subsidised routes and waiting times, which can be long for publicly funded therapy.

City-by-city directories are being added from the official register. The guidance above applies wherever you live.
