Dentists: what they do and how to find one

Dentists diagnose and treat teeth and gum problems, from check-ups and fillings to extractions, and refer on for orthodontics or oral surgery.

Always confirm that a provider is currently licensed and registered with the official national register — the Health Board (Terviseamet) in Estonia, or Valvira and the Kanta service in Finland — before you book. When to see one

Go for a check-up roughly once a year, and sooner for pain, a broken tooth, bleeding gums or a lost filling. Children and some groups may be entitled to subsidised or free dental care.

How to find and register

Choose any licensed dental practice; you do not need a referral. Check that the clinic and dentist appear in the official professional register, and ask in advance about prices, which vary widely between private and subsidised care.
